Henry VanStatten, Alien Hunter

Ignore what they told you - Aliens do exist. While the Government and the world's media conspire to deny last week's event, there are some who are still unafraid to believe. One such is Henry VanStatten, the US dotcom giant, who has a well-known interest in aliens. We asked him what he thought about last week's "hoax":
Q: What do you think what happened last week?
A: Aliens visited the Earth. Simple as that. They attempted to destroy us, but instead, somehow, we destroyed them. Exciting, isn't it?
Q: Then why the cover up?
A: I'd prefer to see it as a near-miss. We very nearly had to accept an unacceptable situation. There are a lot of small minds out there. They had a lot to cope with - Aliens exist, They're Here, They want to kill Us! Now, isn't it easier to just forget all about it?
Q: But isn't there going to be evidence?
A: Yeah… yeah. Of course there is. There'll have been a vast clear-up, and anything left over will fairly safely stored away from the public. And examined. Closely.
Q: You know this for a fact? Has this happened before?
A: Oh, surely. Our planet has been visited by more alien beings for as long as its been around. And, like daytrippers to the park, they leave stuff behind. Sometimes just a few scraps, sometimes something… a little more interesting, if you know what I mean.
And people find this stuff, and sometimes, they know what it is. That's when we get lucky.
Q: What do you mean?
A: Collectors. Afficionados. Bug-Huggers. Conspiracy wing-nuts. We've got a lot of names. But it all boils down to guys like you and me who want a piece of the stars. For me it started with a bit of moondust...
I found it at an ammo fair. I guess, for someone like me who grew up on Star Wars, it's like the ultimate. If you can't set foot on an alien world, well, it's still something to feel that alien grit run through your hands.
But that was moondust - that was quite easy - everyone knows about that. It's acquiring actual alien artefacts that's more of a challenge.
Q: You are kidding!
A: No, no I'm not. The last few years, my firm's started to really take off, and that's meant a lot of money. You soon learn - if you've got enough money, you can have anything you want.
In my case, that's alien objects. There's a whole underground trading in these leftovers and curios - The Gray Market. Of course, it's easy pickings for fakes and loons - but you get to recognise the real thing… It's addictive - I own some scraps of a material no-one can identify, a really curious lump of rock the size of a Jolly Rancher that takes three people to lift, you know - stuff like that. Little hints of our friends up there. I still hope that one day, we'll get to meet the holidaymakers who left this stuff behind.
Q: So, that's your ambition?
A: Oh yeah. As fun as configuring mainframes is, I'm still a little kid who wants to be an astronaut, go to Mars, and make friends with a real, live alien.
